This Wisconsin County is the Ultimate Fall Getaway

This post is in partnership with Travel Calumet.

Located on the eastern shore of Lake Winnebago, Calumet County is one of the best places to enjoy a fall weekend in Wisconsin! I spent two days exploring the area and found so many hidden gems – from parks to pumpkin patches to supper clubs and more.

Our first stop was Mulberry Lane Farm. This place was amazing! They have lots of different farm animals and the cool thing is, they let you go into the pens to pet and hold them! It’s very hands-on and interactive. They have calves, piglets, goats, bunnies, and more! I loved holding the baby chicks. Mulberry Lane also has one of the biggest pumpkin patches I’ve ever seen and each paid admission receives a free pumpkin.

Lunch at Polly’s

Next, we headed to Polly’s Pumpkin Patch, just a few miles from Mulberry Lane. They had a great assortment of pumpkins, nicely lined up on the lawn to pick from. They also have games and a corn maze. On Saturdays and Sundays, they offer a made-to-order lunch. We both ordered the Chicago-style hot dogs which were absolutely delicious!

The last farm we visited was Heritage Orchards, a beautiful apple orchard overlooking Lake Winnebago. I loved strolling through the orchard and visiting the farm store. Make sure you check out the upstairs loft with handmade crafts and goods!

Just minutes away from Heritage Orchards was our Airbnb. It’s located down a quiet road and right on the shore of Lake Winnebago, offering stunning lake views – especially at sunset. I loved relaxing in front of the gas fireplace. They also have a hot tub and fire pit in the backyard.

After getting settled, we drove over to Wolf and Fox Winery for a wine tasting. This new winery is on a sixth-generation family farm. We didn’t get to spend a ton of time here but the time we did spend was so lovely! We also learned that they host live music, weddings and other events in their beautifully-restored barn venue.

Once the sun went down, we made our way over to Hickory Hills Country Club for their Haunted Golf Cart Ride. For this spooky experience, you’re chauffeured via golf cart around the course, passing through various haunted displays. Costumed actors will walk up to the cart, pop out of nowhere and even jump right onto the golf cart! It’s like an outdoor haunted house. If you have little ones along, you can request to have a less scary, kid-friendly experience.

Did you know that Calumet County is known as the Supper Club Capital of the Midwest®? It has not one, not two, but eight supper clubs in the area! We chose to dine at Roepke’s Village Inn, a supper club that’s been in the Roepke family since 1968. One day, I’ll have to come back and go on a supper club tour!

The next morning, we drove to Village Hearthstone, a cozy restaurant that offers Sunday brunch in the little town of Hilbert. This was one of the best breakfasts I’ve had in awhile. I ordered the scones and the quiche. The scones were so warm and soft and came with butter and two different jams. The quiche had such a good flavor and I loved the side salad that came with it.

Now it was time to chase some fall colors!

One park you don’t want to miss is Ledgeview Nature Center. From the parking lot, it’s a short walk to the 60-foot observation tower that offers a 360 degree view of the surrounding landscape. This is a great spot to view the colorful foliage! Ledgeview is also known for their caves and in October, they offer candlelight cave tours.

Calumet County Park is another beautiful park to check out. This one stretches along the shore of Lake Winnebago, making it a great spot to picnic and take in the views. There are some really nice campsites here plus play areas for kids and a boat launch.

Last but not least is High Cliff State Park. As the name implies, it’s set on a limestone cliff overlooking Lake Winnebago. The hiking trails are beautiful in the fall and the unique rock formations make this a popular place to explore!
